Carissimi spiaggiati di tutto il mondo l’avventura di Cortosplash in Lucania finisce qui!

Siamo stati bocciati. La terra che ha visto nascere e crescere con tanta passione, ma anche tanta fatica, questo festival non ci ha ritenuto meritevoli di essere sostenuti.

Cortosplash, il primo festival in Italia svolto interamente in spiaggia, “la sala cinematografica unica al mondo”, chiude i battenti in questa regione.

Siamo un piccolo festival, ce ne sono a centinaia, non abbiamo velleità di credere che l’immenso panorama culturale di questa  regione verrà sminuito dalla nostra assenza ma avevamo voglia di crescere, di essere riconosciuti e qui non ci è possibile.

Siamo convinti di aver lavorato senza risparmarci e con tanto entusiasmo, bene o male lo dirà il tempo, ma siamo soddisfatti delle tante dimostrazioni di stima e affetto che ci sono arrivate da tutto il mondo tramite il sito e dalle persone che ci hanno seguito, in questi anni, durante il festival. Cortosplash è stato esportato, imitato, amato in tanti luoghi e l’accoglienza che ha ricevuto altrove ci ha spinto a credere in questo progetto ma, purtroppo, non in Basilicata.

Abbiamo toccato tematiche importanti, abbiamo proiettato film difficili forse anche scomodi, mai passati in questa regione, realizzato mostre, dibattiti anche su temi sociali e crediamo, senza nessuna presunzione, che il nostro non sia stato solo intrattenimento.

Siamo orgogliosi di aver realizzato queste quattro edizioni solo con le nostre forze e con il contributo di chi ha apprezzato il nostro impegno e che ringraziamo, siamo fieri della nostra indipendenza e per noi un sostegno, anche simbolico, sarebbe stato solo il riconoscimento della nostra (r)esistenza in questi luoghi. Eravamo uno dei pochi festival da queste parti e ci hanno fatto credere di essere importanti, caldeggiando la nostra partecipazione a un bando, ma evidentemente non era così, non c’era spazio per Cortosplash, non eravamo graditi, non eravamo idonei, non eravamo all’altezza delle altre proposte, o forse non eravamo in sintonia con le scelte della Regione Basilicata. Troppo libertari? Troppo piccoli? O semplicemente troppo stranieri? Non lo sapremo mai e a questo punto nemmeno ci interessa.

La nostra è stata comunque un avventura entusiasmante, una scommessa con un territorio difficile per noi, una sfida, forse persa in partenza, ma stimolante, una storia d’amore in cui abbiamo creduto nonostante i tanti segnali non incoraggianti ma senza accorgerci che alla fine era un amore non corrisposto.

Ne prendiamo atto, consapevoli che non tutti mali vengono per nuocere, siamo amareggiati, forse incazzati ma non vogliamo fare le vittime, non è nel nostro stile, siamo convinti che Cortosplash vivrà nuove stagioni d’amore, in altri luoghi e altri tempi. Ci lasciamo, come è nostra consuetudine, con una canzone dal nostro juke box all’idrogeno, una canzone che è liberatoria, catartica!

Dear “beached” from all over the world, the Cortosplash adventure in Lucania ends here!

The land where this festival was born and grew up, with so much passion, but also a lot of effort, did not consider us worthy of being supported.

Cortosplash, the first festival in Italy played entirely on the beach, the cinema hall unique in the world, closes its doors in this region.

We are a small festival, there are hundreds of them, we have no ambition to believe that the huge cultural panorama of this regionwill be diminished by our absence but we wanted to grow, to be recognized and here it is not possible.

We believe we worked strong and with such enthusiasm, time will tell if good or bad, but we are pleased with the many demonstrations of esteem and love that we have received from all over the world through the website and from the people who have followed us in these years, during the festival.

Cortosplash has been exported, imitated, loved in many places and the welcome received elsewhere has led us to believe in this project but, unfortunately, not in Basilicata.

We have touched important issues, we have projected difficult films, perhaps even non easy to watch, never passed in this region, made exhibitions, debates on social issues and we believe, without any presumption, that ours was not just entertainment.

We are proud to have realized these four editions only with our strength and with the contribution of those who appreciated our commitment, and we thank them, we are proud of our independence and for us a support, even symbolic, would have been only the recognition of our (r)existencein these places.

We were one of the few festivals around here and they made us believe we were important, advocating our participation in a competition, but obviously it was not, there was no space for Cortosplash, we were not welcome, we were not eligible, we were not up to the other proposals, or perhaps we were not in tune with the choices of the Basilicata Region.

Too libertarians? Too small? Or simply too foreign? We’ll never know and at this point we don’t even care.

However, ours was an exciting adventure, a bet with a territory difficult for us, a challenge, perhaps lost at the start, but stimulating, a love story in which we believed, despite the many signs not encouraging, but without realizing that in the end was an unrequited love.

We accept this, we are sure that every cloud has a silver lining, we are embittered, perhaps angry but we don’t want to be victims, it is not in our style, we are convinced that Cortosplash will live new seasons of love, in other places and other times.
